Tips for successful registration
We’ve been running successful workshops for over fifteen years. Maiwa brings instructors from around the world and enlists the best local talent. We have a dedicated team to make your registration as smooth as possible.
On opening day we divide spaces between walk-in, phone, and online registrations. Spaces are sold on a first-come first-served basis. Payment is due at time of registration.
There is high demand for spaces in our most popular workshops. To avoid disappointment we recommend students plan their registration strategy before opening day. The information below will tell you everything you need to know.

Walk-in registration takes place in Maiwa Supply.
Our June opening (for Fall Workshops) is busy. The December opening (for Spring Workshops) is less busy. In both cases we've made arrangements to accommodate a lineup. Please have your first and second choices ready.
How early should I get there on opening day? This is your call. We've had people arrive as early as 7am (knitting and coffee in-hand). The Public Market is right next door with bakeries, coffee roasters, and tea merchants. Our December opening is less busy.
Please note: lectures do not sell-out on opening day. There is no need to stand in line for lecture or event tickets.
On Opening day the phones are very busy so expect to redial on the first morning — a lot. However, after the opening rush (10am - noon), you should be able to call us without difficulty. Have your workshop selection, second choice, and credit card ready when you call. 604-669-3939.
Online registration requires Visa or MasterCard. Paypal is not available at this time.
Each year we strive to deliver online registration that meets the needs of our students. We've learned that the ability to offer multiple workshops online during the heavy demand of opening day means that some workshops will oversell. For this reason opening-day sales are not confirmed until 5pm (pacific time) on opening day. Oversold spaces will immediately receive a full refund and registrants will be notified.
Registration sales for workshops are being processed through Eventbrite. NOTE: Eventbrite only accepts Visa or Mastercard.
Address for credit cards must be the billing address. If you would like your registration package send to a separate address just email us the details.
On opening day, all available workshops will appear on the registration screen. The screen will show N/A or unavailable right up to 10am on the morning of registration.
At 10am (pacific time) registration will open. Refresh your screen and you will be able to add a number in the quantity field beside the workshop of your choice. Once you have made your selection you will have 8 minutes to complete your purchase.
Sold out online? if all spaces are showing as sold out online, please call our store 604-669-3939 to see if any spaces are available (from phone or walk-in). You can also ask to be added to the wait list.
IMPORTANT BROWSER RECOMMENDATIONS:
Eventbrite recommends the Google Chrome browser for both Mac and PC. During testing we have noticed a short lag time in other browsers.
Both the schooloftextiles.com website and Eventbrite are fully compatible with mobile devices. Eventbrite also has a mobile app that can be used.
Please choose one platform only. Attempting to open a single Eventbrite account on multiple devices may generate errors.
During the first few minutes of registration opening there is heavy demand for some of our most popular courses. Stock may sell out before your selection process is complete. In this case users may receive an error message. Sadly, this error means that stock is already gone.
Set up your account on Eventbrite
We recommend you complete your set-up of an Eventbrite account before opening day. www.eventbrite.ca. Here's how:
Once you have completed this step your account has been made. It is a good idea to add your contact information and address. NOTE: for workshops, lectures and events your billing and shipping address must be the same.
To make registration easy we have put all our workshops for one season in a single list. This means that users don't have to go in and out of browser windows to see everything. However, it also means that all workshops are a single "event", ie. "2016 Fall Workshops". For this reason, some of Eventbrite's automated features (such as reminders) will be sent out for "2016 Fall Workshops" rather than individual workshops or lectures.
Online Order Confirmation
When you register online you will receive a ticket for each workshop, lecture, or event. You will also receive a Maiwa confirmation package in the mail. Confirmation packages contain supply lists for workshops, location of the workshops, and full detail of your registration. The eventbrite ticket gives limited information and looks like this:
Note that the ticket (and the eventbrite notices) will be for the session. The workshop/lecture/event and dates will be at the bottom of the ticket. Your eventbrite order will contain a separate ticket for each workshop, lecture, or event.
When does registration start?
Registration opens at 10am. Check the session listings for the date.
Is there a rush?
There is a rush for many of our workshops. We bring instructors from around the world and class size is limited. There is no rush for lectures and events.

No. Please use our on-line site instead. E-mail is not a secure way to send credit card information and messages are occasionally blocked by spam filters.
Can I register on-line?
How do I register on-line
See Online Registration above.
I'm trying to register on-line but it doesn't look like there are any spaces.
Even in the first minutes of opening, courses may be already sold out on-line. This can happen very quickly on the first morning. At this point you can call and see if there are still spaces left for phone registration. Please ask to go on the waiting list, especially on opening morning.
How do I know my on-line registration worked?
You will have a confirmation screen giving a summary of your purchase. Please print this out and keep it. You will also receive an e-mail message confirming your order. Please double-check when entering your email in the form, an incorrect email will prevent us from contacting you.
My credit card was declined! It's never been declined!
We, sadly, have no control over credit cards or banks. We have no mechanism to accept or change a declined card.
Something mysterious happened and I can't be certain my on-line registration worked. What should I do?
E-mail us right away at firstname.lastname@example.org give us as much information as you can. Especially which workshops you were trying to register for. If you suspect you are having e-mail difficulty please call us 604 669 3939 (The phones are usually past the mad rush by 12 noon).
Online shows sold out! If all spaces are showing as sold out online, please call our store 604-669-3939 to see if any spaces are available (from phone or walk-in). You can also ask to be added to the wait list.
I sent an e-mail but I got a reply from "Spam Arrest". What's up with that?
Spam Arrest is our spam filter. If this is your first time trying to contact us via e-mail you will recieve an e-mail reply from spam arrest asking to verify that you are not a spambot trying to fill our in-box with ads for cheap viagra. You'll have to type in a code that appears on the page. Don't worry it is all legit. If you'd prefer not to, there is still no cause for alarm. We check the spam filter persistently on opening day and authorize messages from registrants whom the spam filter has stopped.
I tried everything but my favourite workshop is full. What can I do?
Our staff know the workshops inside and out. We would be happy to suggest an alternative. We also keep a waiting list and if you get placed on it early there is still a chance that you will get in. People's plans change and spaces do open up.
